On Tuesday morning, around 8:45 a.m., a serious traffic accident occurred on the A9 in the district of Eichstätt, resulting in the death of a man. According to a statement from the Ingolstadt Traffic Police, the 54-year-old driver was traveling southbound toward Munich with his tractor-trailer when, according to uninvolved witnesses, he slowly veered off the roadway to the right shortly after the "Denkendorf" interchange without any external influence. The load of timber caused the trailer to tip onto its right side on the grassy shoulder beside the road.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the 54-year-old driver was already deceased. It remains unclear whether he suffered fatal injuries in the accident or if a medical issue was the cause.
For the accident investigation and the recovery of the truck, the middle and right lanes have been closed. This has resulted in a traffic jam stretching at least five kilometers. According to police assessments, the recovery of the tractor-trailer and its cargo will take a considerable amount of time.
