At around 4:30 a.m., a 35-year-old woman from Augsburg was driving her car on the A3 heading towards Nuremberg. According to the Erlangen Traffic Police Department, the driver veered off the road to the right approximately three kilometers past the Höchstadt-Ost junction in a construction zone. As a result, the car collided with the outer guardrail and overturned - coming to rest on its roof about 15 meters off the road, right next to a pond.
The vehicle carried three women, including the 35-year-old, all of whom sustained injuries. The driver suffered moderate facial injuries and was taken to a hospital. The two passengers, aged 35 and 36, escaped with minor injuries.
The A3 had to be temporarily closed in both directions as a rescue helicopter landed at the accident site. The car was severely damaged, with police estimating the property damage to be at least 23,000 euros.
