Nürnberg - After nearly three decades, a well-known store is disappearing from downtown Nuremberg.

A name familiar to many parents is disappearing from Nuremberg’s city center: "Babywalz" is closing its store on *Vordere Ledergasse*. The company from Baden-Württemberg opened its first shop in Nuremberg in 1997 and over the years became a go-to destination for expectant parents and young families. After 28 years in the Franconian metropolis, the end has now come: the specialty store will close its doors in December.

The company, headquartered in Bad Waldsee in Upper Swabia, is withdrawing from Nuremberg’s downtown area. The store, offering products for pregnant women, babies, and toddlers, will close no later than December 6, 2025. If remaining stock sells out sooner, the closure may take place earlier. The large clearance sale has been running since mid-October.

A total of seven employees work at the branch on *Vordere Ledergasse*. Multiple inquiries from our editorial team regarding the reasons for the closure and the future of the staff went unanswered by the company.

„Online nobody talks to you“

“The customers are shaken,” says a long-time employee who wishes to remain anonymous. She explains that especially first-time parents rely on and value personal advice: “People want to touch, feel, and try pushing a stroller. You can’t get that online.” She also sees expectant mothers and parents as victims of the closure: “Online, no one talks to you; the expert guidance is missing.”

The employee also emphasizes the importance of personal expertise: “We were a specialty store with professional advice. But that also meant people would steal our expertise - customers googling while still in the shop,” she continues.

The future of numbers 16 to 20 Vorderer Ledergasse remains uncertain. According to the property manager at "Tetris Grundbesitz AG," no new tenant has yet been found for the premises, our editorial team was informed upon inquiry.
