The onset of winter has caused icy roads throughout Franconia, leading to several accidents. On the A9 between *Hormersdorf* and *Schnaittach* heading towards Munich, a truck crashed this morning: it slid off the mirror-smooth roadway to the right, broke through the guardrail, and ended up in a ditch, confirmed the press office of the Middle Franconia Police Headquarters to our editorial team.
The truck ended up on its roof, and the recovery is proving difficult, expected to continue into the afternoon according to the police headquarters. The driver was freed from the vehicle and, according to initial reports, sustained injuries that are not severe. Currently (7:56 a.m.), traffic is being routed past the accident site on a single lane. There is a backlog of about seven kilometers, and drivers should allow at least an extra half hour.
There was also an accident in the opposite direction on Monday morning: on the A9 heading towards Berlin, traffic is currently backed up for about four kilometers between the Nürnberg interchange and Lauf. Drivers should expect delays here as well. When snowfall began on Sunday evening, an accident occurred on the A6 near Schwabach, resulting in one person being injured. Additionally, a fatal traffic accident took place in the Oberpfalz region on Monday morning.
