What initially looked like a brief interruption is turning into a test of patience: after the fire in the neighboring building, Auckland Coffee hoped to have to close for just one day. But that hope was quickly dashed. „Expected to be closed for a week,“ said a notice posted shortly afterward—but now almost two weeks have passed, and the business remains closed.
The fire broke out on October 1 in the basement of a building on Königstraße. According to the fire department, the fire started in the heating and electrical room at a distribution box. Three fire engines with around 40 firefighters were deployed, and the police cordoned off a large area at the corner of Kaiserstraße. Although the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured, the consequences for the surrounding businesses are serious.
After fire on Königstraße in Nuremberg: These restaurants are closed
Since then, the power has been cut off throughout the entire building complex, making it impossible for the restaurants and retailers there to operate. In addition to Auckland Coffee, the Vietnamese restaurant My Hao, the French fry manufacturer Frittenwerk, the ice cream parlor Gelatissimo Soldan, and the vending machine kiosk The Späti are also affected. The Thomas Sabo branch also remains closed.
„We hope to be back for you soon,“ writes the team at Viva e Panini. The traditional Italian restaurant expects to be able to reopen at the end of October at the earliest. Only the law firm Rau, Schneck und Hübner at Königstraße 2 remains accessible (on foot).
It is unclear exactly how long the repair work will take. For the affected businesses, the power outage means not only a standstill, but also a significant economic setback.
