Vigo - A Spanish football player misses a crucial match due to a bite injury in the genital area. The strange part: His own dog is apparently responsible.

Carles Pérez was supposed to play an important second leg match for his team in the Conference League qualification against FC Aras Nachitschewan on Thursday, July 31. He played the entire 90 minutes in the first leg for his team Aris Saloniki, but his teammates will have to manage without the Spaniard for the rematch. The 27-year-old has been treated in a hospital for bite wounds in his genital area, reports the Spanish sports newspaper Marca.

According to Greek media, the incident occurred in a park in Thessaloniki. Pérez was reportedly walking with his dog when his companion was attacked by another dog. The footballer intervened and consequently sustained a bite wound.

The Spaniard was taken to a hospital, where the injury was treated with six stitches. According to Marca, the footballer remains under observation, but his condition is not serious. Pérez is now back home and is expected to return to his team soon.

Carles Pérez spent eight years at La Masia, FC Barcelona’s legendary youth academy. However, he never managed to establish himself there, leading to stints in Italy before returning to Spain. He is currently on loan to the Greek Super League club Aris Soloniki.
