Nürnberg - People in Bavaria have to expect thunderstorms once again - there is a local risk of severe weather on Thursday.

People in Bavaria can expect thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail and strong winds. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), these may also become severe locally in the second half of the day, especially in the south. In some cases, they will be accompanied by gale-force winds of over 100 kilometers per hour, heavy rainfall of around 40 liters per square meter in a short period of time and hail with a diameter of three centimeters. It will remain hot: the DWD experts expect maximum temperatures of 24 to 32 degrees on Thursday.

Warning for Franconia

Thunderstorms are also forecast for Franconia, although they are expected to be less severe than those in southern Bavaria. However, for large parts of Upper and Lower Franconia as well as for the district of Ansbach, the DWD has issued an official level 1 warning for gusts of wind reaching up to 70 km/h.

Franconian meteorologist Stefan Ochs, also known as "Wetterochs," anticipates the following weather pattern on Thursday, based on various weather models: "In the morning, a light band of rain, locally intensified by thunderstorms, followed by clearing skies and a temperature rise to 30 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, and in the evening, passage of potentially severe thunderstorms." Ochs also warns of storm gusts associated with these thunderstorms.

Weekend Calm

On Friday, temperatures in Bavaria will cool down slightly with highs ranging from 22 to 27 degrees Celsius. According to the DWD, there may initially be showers and thunderstorms, but the sun is expected to make an appearance as the day progresses. Just in time for the weekend, sunny, dry, and warm weather invites people to enjoy trips to Bavaria's swimming spots.

In Franconia, according to „Wetterochs“, it is expected to be mostly overcast, with occasional light rain. Temperatures will reach around 23 degrees during the day. The gusty winds will shift from southwest to northwest.
