On Tuesday afternoon, June 17, 2025, a case of aggravated shoplifting occurred in a supermarket near Nuremberg Central Station, where a 42-year-old man injured several people. At around 3:10 PM, the man took an ice cream from the store's freezer at „Nelson-Mandela-Platz“ and left without paying, according to the Middle Franconia Police Headquarters. When employees confronted him, the perpetrator reacted extremely aggressively, assaulting three staff members who sustained minor injuries. The man then fled the store.
An employee pursued the suspect and notified the police. A patrol from the „Nürnberg-Süd“ police station managed to apprehend the suspect shortly thereafter. The 42-year-old continued to be uncooperative with the police officers. Despite being repeatedly instructed, he refused to comply with their commands. It was only after he was restrained that he could be taken into custody. During the process, he struck the officers and attempted to break free.
Upon searching the man, officers discovered an illegal quantity of cannabis, two blank-firing guns, a knife, and a hammer. Two police officers sustained minor injuries to their hands and knees. The suspect himself suffered a minor cut, necessitating the presence of an ambulance.
A breath alcohol test indicated approximately a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.3 %. Upon the order of an investigating judge, a blood sample was taken. The man was subsequently taken into custody as he continued to behave aggressively. He is now being investigated on charges including robbery and resisting law enforcement officers.
